On the evening of 8th November 2016 at precisely 8.00 pm in the evening, Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi made a surprise address to the nation.

“Today the night of 8th November 2016, 12.00 p.m. midnight onwards,  the Rs.500 and Rs. 1000  currency notes in circulation will be made void as a legal tender. This currency y will be invalid legally.  The facility to transact with the legal tenders in the denomination of Rs.500 and Rs. 1000 will not be possible post-midnight today.“
